SECTOR FLOORING

Retail flooring fitted before the shutters go up

Retail units live or die on footfall, and losing a trading day to a flooring job is rarely something an owner wants to absorb. We plan around closing time, stock deliveries and shop-fit schedules, aiming to have the unit trading again before the next opening time.

TYPICAL SPEC
Commercial LVT or sheet vinyl for shop floors, carpet tile for changing rooms or office space at the rear
DOWNTIME
Overnight or single closed-day fitting is the norm for smaller units
SLIP PERFORMANCE
Suitable slip-rated flooring considered for entrances exposed to wet weather
INVOICING
Invoiced to the tenant or to a landlord where fit-out is part of a lease agreement

Retail-specific spec choices

  • Commercial-grade LVT or sheet vinyl for sales floor areas, chosen for appearance and durability under trolley and footfall wear
  • Suitable slip-rated flooring considered for entrance zones exposed to rain being tracked in
  • Carpet tile for back-of-house offices or staff areas
  • Robust matting at the door to reduce grit reaching the main floor

Fitting around trading hours

Smaller units are usually fitted overnight or on a single closed day, with stock and shelving moved and reinstated as part of the job. Larger units sometimes need the floor split into sections so part of the shop can keep trading while another section is worked on.

Where budget vinyl shows up fastest

A thin, domestic-grade vinyl in a shop entrance will show scuffing and wear within months under trolley and pushchair traffic, and patch-repairing a small section rarely matches the surrounding floor once it's faded. Commercial-grade product costs more up front but holds its look through sustained retail footfall.

Fife's retail and high street mix

We've fitted units in Dunfermline and Glenrothes town centres and out-of-town retail parks, plus smaller high street shops in Kirkcaldy, Cupar and Leven where older shopfronts often sit above uneven or historic subfloors that need levelling before new flooring goes down.

Coordinating with a shop-fit

  • Timing fixed around shelving, till points and signage installation by other trades
  • Landlord or letting agent sometimes managing access for a new tenant fit-out
  • Stock deliveries rescheduled around the flooring visit where possible
