Why grit is the real enemy
Fine grit walked in on shoes acts like sandpaper under foot traffic, dulling the finish of carpet, LVT and wood alike far faster than moisture alone; a matting well intercepts most of it at the door.
Recessed vs surface-mounted
- Recessed matting sits flush with surrounding flooring, avoiding a trip edge
- Surface-mounted matting is quicker to fit but sits slightly proud
- Recessed wells need to be planned before the surrounding floor goes down
Where we talk customers out of it
A mat well isn't a substitute for a durable hallway floor covering behind it — it reduces wear, it doesn't eliminate the need for a hard-wearing choice like LVT or a tough loop pile carpet beyond it.
Door bars and transition trims
A neat transition trim between matting and the main floor, or between two different floor types at a threshold, avoids the trip hazard of an unfinished edge and finishes the job properly.
Fife weather relevance
With Fife's regular rain and coastal-influenced weather, a decent entrance mat well earns its keep at almost every front and back door across Dunfermline, Rosyth and Inverkeithing.
