Keeping the floor good after we've gone
- Matting at every external door — it does more for a floor's life than any product upgrade.
- Felt pads under chair and table legs, replaced when they wear through to the metal.
- Damp mop, not a wet floor: standing water finds the joints eventually.
- Vacuum with the beater bar off on loop pile, and never steam-clean a floating floor.
- Deal with a lifting edge or a loose trim early, while it's still a ten-minute job.
Where Kelty sits on our week
Kelty is a Fife town near Cowdenbeath, about 8 miles out along the M90, inside our daily route. That keeps survey slots frequent and means a snag visit doesn't need a special trip.
It also means we know the housing stock rather than reading it off a map: ex-mining terraced construction, long-time family-home owners in ex-mining terraces, and damp risers in old mining cottages turning up again and again.
Transitions between rooms with different floor coverings
Where carpet meets a hard floor, or two different plank products butt up in a doorway, a transition strip covers the join and manages any difference in height. Done well it's barely noticeable; done badly it's a trip hazard that loosens within a year.

Choosing colour under Fife daylight
Daylight in Fife is often flatter and cooler than a showroom's lighting suggests, particularly through the darker months, so a carpet or plank sample can read quite differently once it's laid in a Kelty room facing away from the sun.
We always suggest looking at a sample in the actual room, morning and evening, before committing to a colour for a whole coastal cottage. A warmer wood tone or a mid-depth carpet colour tends to hold up better across changing light than very pale or very dark choices.
Where a cheaper spec is false economy in KY4
We'd rather lose the job than fit the wrong thing. In ex-mining terraced property the temptation is thin underlay or a budget click plank over an unlevel base — both look fine on day one and telegraph every hollow inside a year.
