Reading the label properly
Not all polypropylene is solution-dyed. A surface-dyed polypropylene will lose colour if you bleach it, and that is exactly the property most buyers think they are getting. We check the specification of the actual roll before quoting.
Density is the other number that matters. A dense, tightly tufted polypropylene in a busy hall will outperform a plusher, looser one that looks better in the showroom.
Matching carpet to household
- Dogs and muddy paws — solution-dyed twist, mid tone, avoid very dark or very pale
- Toddlers — loop pile is not ideal if you have a cat that will pull it
- Rentals — mid-grey or oatmeal twist, easiest to spot-repair between tenancies
- Home offices — a low-pile twist so the chair castors roll
