Why we test rather than assume
A concrete slab can look and feel dry and still be well above the moisture threshold for a bonded floor. In older Fife properties with no original damp-proof membrane, or a new-build with a screed still drying, bonding LVT or wood straight down means lifting adhesive within months.
Testing takes minutes at survey and it changes the quote honestly rather than producing an unwelcome surprise on fitting day.
Timber floors and ply overlay
Chipboard and floorboard subfloors flex between joists and their joints open and close. Under a thin glue-down floor those joints eventually telegraph through as ridges. A screwed ply overlay creates a continuous, stable surface — and the screws go in at 150mm centres, not wherever is convenient.
For a carpet fit, ply overlay is usually unnecessary. We do not add work that does not change the result.
