Choosing between chevron and herringbone
Herringbone reads as classic and busy; chevron reads as contemporary and calm because the eye follows one continuous line. In a narrow Fife hallway, running the chevron point away from the front door visually lengthens the space.
If you are matching or extending existing period parquet, it will almost certainly be herringbone — chevron is rare in Scottish period housing.
