FITTING GUIDE

How long does flooring actually take to fit?

The honest answer to 'how long will this take' depends entirely on the flooring type, the room count and what's underneath the old floor, but there are realistic ranges. A single room is usually a matter of hours, while a full house with several floor types can run across a number of days.

Roughly how long common jobs take

  • Hallway or small bedroom carpet — a matter of hours
  • Living room carpet with furniture moves — half a day
  • Full staircase carpet with winders — half a day to a full day
  • A room of click LVT or laminate — around a day
  • Glue-down LVT including levelling — one to two days with drying time
  • Herringbone or parquet — one to two days depending on room size
  • A full house across multiple flooring types — commonly several days

What throws a timescale off

Unexpected subfloor issues found once old flooring is lifted are the most common cause of a job overrunning its estimate — a damp patch, unlevel screed or rotten timber section needs addressing before new flooring can go down, and that's not always visible until the old floor comes up. Adhesive and levelling compound drying times are also weather and heating dependent.

Planning around your household

If certain rooms need to stay usable — a kitchen you can't be without for a day, or a bedroom for a shift worker — flag this at survey stage so we can sequence the work accordingly, sometimes across more than one visit rather than trying to do everything in one continuous stretch.

Access and weather across Fife

Jobs in tighter streets around central Dunfermline or Kirkcaldy can take a little longer purely due to carrying materials further from the van, and in exposed areas along the KY3 coast we sometimes build in a little extra drying allowance for adhesives given the higher ambient humidity.
